Explorer Guide: Customized Transfer

This guide is for CGCC students considering a major and possible career paths.

FOCUS ON: Customized Transfer

There are countless possibilities for CoGreene students who want to transfer to other colleges. Below are tools to assist you in researching, goal setting, and smart decision making that is key to transfer success. To set up a transfer advising appointment, call 518-697-6395 or email vicky.pecord@sunycgcc.edu.

Choosing a College

Selecting a College

When choosing a transfer school, you will want to begin your research early and consider the following when narrowing down your selection:

Tuition & Fees

Carefully consider the total cost of each school and the amount of debt you are comfortable with. Using a net price calculator can help you estimate the cost for each college you consider. Visit the college’s financial aid webpage or check out the College Board Net Price Calculator.

Location, Size, Setting

Determine what characteristics about a college are most important to you (location, programs, campus life, etc.).

Transferring Your College Credits

Planning ahead with your Academic Advisor will allow you to customize the courses you take at C-GCC so they align with your transfer plan. Many colleges will offer an “unofficial” transfer credit evaluation before you apply. Ask for one, as it may help you decide which school is best for you.

APPLICATION PROCESS

SUNY Colleges & Universities

Use the SUNY Application to apply to multiple SUNY schools at once.

SUNY Fee Waiver

Ask your advisor about how you can get the application fee waived if you have completed your A.A. or A.S. degree before transferring. Students facing economic hardship can submit a Fee Waiver Request Form.

Non-SUNY Colleges & Universities

To apply visit each college’s website for a link to the application. Use this option if available.

The Common Application is used by many private colleges and universities and allows the applicant to apply to multiple schools at once. Because of the lengthy requirements, we recommend using the Common App if it is the only option.

Transfer Application Step-by-Step Guide
  1. Choose target schools
  2. Read all transfer admissions information very carefully!
  3. Complete applications
  4. Submit official transcripts from all colleges and high schools attended: C-GCC Transcript Request Form
  5. Submit any supplemental materials required (essays, references, etc.)
  6. Confirm with each school that all required applications have been received and that the application is complete.
  7. Wait for decisions. Be sure to check our email as many schools no longer send admission decisions by mail.
