Explorer Guide: Business

This guide is for CGCC students considering a major and possible career paths.

FOCUS ON: Business

Business is a broad career field that includes areas such as Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Management, and Entrepreneurship. The core courses for any business degree are relatively the same, so a student can begin coursework while exploring different areas of business and deciding on a focus. 

Introductory Courses

BU 103 Foundations of Business

In this course, organizations are examined as they relate to the economic system. Students learn about employee supervision, business marketing, finance, production, employee regulations, international business, and union-management relations. 

EC 101 Macroeconomics

This course provides an overview of the American economic system. Topics include neoclassical and Keynesian theories, business cycles, supply and demand, fiscal and monetary policy, the Federal Reserve system, and the influence of world events on consumer/wholesale prices and Gross Domestic Product.  

AC 101 Financial Accounting

This class introduces general concepts and basic principles of financial accounting. Students learn about the accounting cycle, internal control, reporting the results of operations and financial position.

Someone who enjoys leadership roles. You'll need strong verbal and written communication skills, planning abilities, and problem-solving skills. You enjoy thinking about more than a whole company, but how that company interacts with its community, and its role in the local, regional, and national economies.
