This guide is designed to help students participating in the remote history internship program under the guidance of professor Childrose.

Accessing Open Access Sources Through Primo

The library's online catalog, Primo, now offers access to peer-reviewed open access journals, images, and books. Open access materials are are freely available to all researchers. Open access journals are often peer-reviewed.

To search specifically for articles from such journals, use the following steps:

  • Go to the library's home page. In the Search Primo box, type in your subject, using quotation marks. Click the Search button.  
  • In the Refine Your Results column on the left side of the screen. Under Availability, select Peer Reviewed Journals and Open Access Journals. Click the Apply Filters button.

  • Click on the title to gain access to the item record. Within the item record will be a link to view the article, image, or ebook. 

Citations for Open Access Items

Primo generates sample citations for items it locates. To access sample citations for an open access source, use the following steps:

  • In the item record, in the Send To field, locate Citation. The word is underneath an icon of quotation marks.

  • Select the citation style you need, click Copy Citation to Clipboard, then paste into the Works Cited page of your document.
