CE 101 - College Experience: Intro to the Library

A guide for the College Experience course that will introduce students to the functions of the library.

Welcome to the library's get-acquainted page. To learn more about our resources and the research process, we encourage you to enroll in our Library Skills course. There is a special Library Skils course for nursing students. This free, self-paced course is offered online through Brightspace in the fall and spring semesters. To register for the nursing or regular library skills class, email reference@sunycgcc.edu.

Click below to open a PDF that explains library logins for databases and Primo, the library's online catalog.

Accessing the Library's Web Page

To access the library's home page from the college's home page, move your cursor to "Academics," then click on "Library & Media Services."

Once on the library's home page, click on the green box labeled " Search Primo" to look for books, ebooks, and articles. To search in a specific database or to search subject-specific databases, click on the "Library Online Resources" tab on the right side of the page. Our databases are arranged according to subject.

Library of Congress Classification

We classify our collections using the Library of Congress Classification System, the standard for college and university libraries. It is similar to the Dewey Decimal System used at K-12 schools and public libraries in that it groups materials by subject, only Library of Congress uses letters and numbers to classify materials.
